When you love the sea, there is no better way to see it than to go snorkeling.
Whether you want to have a look at coral reefs or simply want to swim in a concealed archipelago, snorkeling is a great way to see under the waves and spot some striking fish!
So, what are some of the best spots around the world to go snorkeling, and what can you expect to see? Here’s a quick guide for you.
Waikiki, Hawaii
When you think of Hawaii, you probably think of dolphins, and yes, if you go snorkeling in Hawaii, you will probably see a few of these.
When you book yourself into the Waikiki Hotel, you will be surrounded by beautiful beaches, as well as the space to undertake some brilliant snorkeling! Here, you will be able to see not only dolphins but also blue marlins, big-eyed tuna, and even trevally.
Ghar Lapsi, Malta
If you have ever been to Malta, you will know that it is a rocky island that has very deep water that is close to the shore.
The pristine and temperate water conditions make it ideal for snorkeling, especially around Ghar Lapsi. During a snorkeling expedition here, you can see amberjacks, scorpion fish, octopus, as well as wrasse, meaning you will see a lot of pretty fish.
When booking your snorkeling-based trip, try to do it from May to September, and remember that this area is also idyllic for divers, so take care not to crash into them!
The Medes Islands, Spain
Are you looking to book your snorkeling trip between June and September? Then head to the Medes Islands in Spain.
These islands are located in an archipelago, which means you can snorkel there in almost all weather. While snorkeling, you are bound to see an array of colorful fish, such as the aptly named rainbow wrasse, the East Atlantic peacock wrasse, and larger sea creatures like dolphins, barracudas, crabs, and starfish.
Bocas del Toro, Panama
If you love the sea and you love nature, then this spot in Panama is right for you.
Want to go snorkeling in this beauty spot? Head to the Almirante Bay! In this area, you will see crystal clear waters; there will be no waves, and, of course, the coral reefs are protected, so you will see the ecosystems that survive around these underwater forests firsthand.
If you or one of your children is a fan of SpongeBob, then a snorkeling trip here will certainly make them smile, as it is home to sponges and thousands of starfish! There are also different species of shrimp and spider crabs. So, while there will be a lot for your kids to look at, they aren’t likely to see the entire crew of the Krusty Krab!
The Similan Islands, Thailand
An archipelago in the Andaman Sea, the Similan Islands are ideal to go snorkeling off of, usually in the months between December to April, so you can book a very late holiday around the Christmas period and spend it diving. Very unique!
This area has beautiful white beaches, corals, and a diverse range of marine life, including red-tailed butterfly fish, the odd-looking (and cute!) frogfish, and the dolphins that inhabit these waters. There are also nine islands to explore, most uninhabited, making them fun places to look around and relax.
